The TaylorMade Men’s R580XD Driver features a 440cc Titanium head that boasts a larger sweet spot and a massive moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness on mis-hits. A larger, deeper hitting area above the center of gravity (CG) makes the XD extra-easy to launch. TaylorMade’s improved Inverted Cone Technology provides a larger coefficient of restitution (COR) zone that results in higher ball speed. Built with super-lightweight graphite shafts this club is tip-soft with a mid-torque to promote a high launch angle and a long, straight carry. The MAS2 60 shaft weighs a teensy 60 grams and features a medium tip that is designed to work in conjunction with the head to deliver optimum control and distance.
This right-handed club also features a CAD-optimized center of gravity that is positioned low and back to help promote a high launch angle and reduced spin. TaylorMade included crown lines on the clubhead for enhanced aiming and consistency. Engineered to precisely tune the shaft with the club head, TaylorMade uses a weight cartridge inserted into a port in the back of the clubhead.
What is the Coefficient of Restitution (COR)?
The Coefficient of Restitution, referred to as COR in golf circles, is a measurement of the clubface’s ability to rebound the ball, expressed as a percentage that is determined by a ball’s speed off the clubhead divided by the speed at which it struck the clubhead. The term crept into popular golf vernacular with the rise of ultra-thin-faced drivers. An effect of thin faces is known as the “spring-like effect” or “trampoline effect”–the face of the driver depresses as the ball is struck, then rebounds. This provides a little extra power to the shot, and a club that exhibits this property will have a very high COR. Of course, the USGA has imposed maximum CORs to level the “spring-like effect” playing field. For a club to be allowed under USGA rules, it must have a maximum COR of 0.830.
